Scott's Chasing Gear Collection

So, I thought I would share with everyone what my "chase gear" consists of. Nothing major, but here goes.

Compaq Laptop with the following installed

  1. GRLevel3 with Allisonhouse feed
  2. Spotter Network
  3. Delorme Street Atlas 2010 with GPS Puck & Delorme Serial Emulator
  4. NWS Chat
  5. Adobe Creative Suite 4 (includes Photoshop and Premiere along with other editing tools)
Nikon CoolPix3 Camera
Tripod
Yaesu Ham Radio 2 meter (more for my local EMA Spotting)
Yep, that's it. That's my chasing gear. Hmmm, guess I don't live up to the chaser standards as I don't have a huge cashflow like some others, but it gets what I need done.
**Will update list should anything be added.

Friday April 22nd

Well, as of right now, Friday is shaping up to be a repeat of Tuesday across southern Illinois. Yet another setup I won't be chasing, but it seems as this year chasing is just not in the cards. That's fine with me though. I enjoy being out spotting at home as well.

There's a slight risk out for Illinois for tomorrow, which may be upgraded to a Moderate Risk by tomorrow. April has been a VERY active month this year. surpassing April 2006 in number of confirmed tornado reports, and it's not over yet. From looking at the forecast models, it appears as though this active weather should continue at least through the first week of May.

I was unable to chase today sadly, however, Just sticking my head out the window, I was lucky to get some decent lightning strikes. As well as some storm structure out over the lake.

This lightning strike below turning out terribly fuzzy due to not having a tripod. So after taking the shots this evening, I came back home and purchased myself a tripod. Hopefully with the storms to come, I will be able to catch a bit better shots with lightning.

I believe southern Illinois will see most of the tornado threat. However, Severe weather will drift northward through central Illinois. Hopeful that this is the case, as I am unable to chase today, and will merely be able to step outside for some random photos. I have gotten a tripod since the last storms came through, so we'll see if I can get better photos with a tripod.
